Counter sales

Ring up a sale. Move the stock.

Ring up the sale once. Tare7 records how the customer paid, removes the items from stock, and keeps the cost attached. No second update after the line is gone.

The result

The customer gets one clear total. You get the sale, payment method, stock change, and margin recorded before the next person steps up.

Where this helps

A shop counter, a market stall, a food-truck window or a trade van finishing a job in a driveway.

What you can stop doing

A card reader with a notebook next to it

Taking payment is usually the easy part. The mess starts later, when somebody has to remember what sold, reduce the stock, and work out whether the sale made money. Quick Sale handles all of that while the customer is still standing there.

Why it matters

If a sale never reaches your stock records, every quantity, reorder reminder, and margin figure after it is already wrong.

A worked example

Watch the loose ends disappear, step by step.

A shop counter. Two bags of House blend 250g at $14.00, one ceramic mug at $18.00, and gift wrapping at $4.00. State sales tax is 6.25%. The bags landed at $5.60 each and the mug at $6.50.

  1. 1

    Tap three tiles

Add two bags of coffee, one mug, and gift wrapping. There is no SKU lookup, and Tare7 knows gift wrapping is a service—not something sitting on a shelf.

  2. 2

The ticket adds up in front of you

Subtotal $50.00. The tax chip is set to STATE · 6.25%, which puts $3.13 on the ticket. Total $53.13. The Take button carries the amount so nobody reads it off a screen and keys it wrong into the reader.

  3. 3

You take the money the way you already do

Card reader, payment app, cash, check, bank transfer. Then you tap which one it was. Tare7 records the tender — it never sees the card and never holds the funds.

  4. 4

The stock moves at the same moment

The coffee drops from 18 to 16 and the mug drops by one at the location that sold them. Gift wrapping does not touch stock because nothing physical left.

  5. 5

You can see what the sale earned

Tare7 keeps the cost that belonged to each item when it sold. On $46.00 of goods, the $17.70 cost leaves $28.30 of gross profit—before the next customer reaches the counter.

  6. 6

The mug comes back on Thursday

Refund the mug and it goes back into stock at the same cost it carried when it sold. The return restores the original sale instead of guessing from today’s price.

The customer gets one clear total. You get the sale, payment method, stock change, and margin recorded before the next person steps up.

Tare7 does
  • Books the revenue and the sales tax
  • Releases the stock that left
  • Captures the cost on the release row
  • Marks the invoice paid
Tare7 does not
  • Process a card
  • Hold or settle your funds
  • Take a cut of the sale
  • Put you in PCI scope
Recording how you were paid is the last step of the sale, not a payment step. The money moves on the reader you already own; Tare7 books what that money was for.

Before you rely on it

What this feature does not try to do.

If one of these limits matters to your business, it is better to know before you move the work—not after.

  • Tare7 records how the customer paid; it does not process cards or hold your money. Keep using your preferred reader, payment app, or cash drawer.
  • Tare7 does not currently open a cash drawer, drive a receipt printer, or power a customer-facing display. Receipts are sent or shown digitally.
  • Older sales without captured cost are clearly excluded from margin reporting rather than being treated as if the goods were free.
  • One tax rate applies per ticket, drawn from your rate table. There is no automatic jurisdiction lookup from a delivery address.
  • Prices and totals are in your workspace's single currency. There is no multi-currency support.
