A once-a-year stocktake tells you something went wrong months ago. Small, regular counts let you find the difference while someone still remembers whether it was damaged, used, misplaced, or never rung up.
Why it matters

A critical spares cage, CAGE-A. Three items are counted on a Tuesday morning: a bearing, a drive belt and a shaft seal. The belt landed at $18.40 and the seal at $3.05.

Start a count on the location
Tare7 fills the count with everything expected in the spares cage, so the forgotten item is not quietly skipped again.

Write down what is actually there
Bearing 6204-2RS: expected 24, counted 24. Drive belt A57: expected 12, counted 9. Shaft seal 35mm: expected 40, counted 41.

Review before anything moves
Two items are different. You can review both before posting, so a mistyped count does not immediately change your stock.

Name each difference
The belt is short 3: reason 'count variance', because three went out on a changeover that was never released. The seal is over by 1: reason 'found stock'. Both codes come from a list you control.

Post
Post the count and each difference updates its own item with its own reason. The bearing stays untouched because it matched.

The value moves with it
Three belts at $18.40 is $55.20 off; one seal at $3.05 is $3.05 on. A net $52.15 write-down that you can point at a cause for. Owners and managers are notified that the count posted.

What this feature does not try to do.
If one of these limits matters to your business, it is better to know before you move the work—not after.
- Counts are not blind. The sheet shows the expected quantity beside the counted one, so a counter can see the figure they are checking against.
- Counting is per location. Because bins are receipt-capture only, a count is against the location as a whole rather than bin by bin.
- Posting a count corrects today’s quantity without rewriting the past. Earlier movements stay visible, so the history remains trustworthy.
- You can define your own reason codes. There is not currently an approval step before a variance posts.
- Notifications go to owners and managers when a count posts. There is no configurable escalation by variance threshold.
